About the Slovak vignette
The Slovak vignette (diaľničná známka) is a time-based charge for using the signposted toll sections of Slovakia's motorways and expressways. It is required for two-track motor vehicles and vehicle combinations of up to 3.5 tonnes, and for passenger cars of category M1 regardless of their weight.
The vignette is purely electronic: Slovakia launched its electronic vignette system on 1 December 2015, replacing the windscreen sticker. Each vignette is recorded against the vehicle's license plate and country of registration in the central register run by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (NDS), the national motorway company.
Four periods are available — 1 day, 10 days, 30 days and 365 days — each starting on the date you choose. Toll sections are monitored by cameras and checked together with the police, and driving without a valid vignette is fined.
Vignette validity — from 1 day to 1 year
Every Slovak vignette runs from the start date you choose until 23:59 on its last day. The start date always counts as the first day of validity.

Vignette requirements for different vehicles
The e-vignette is mandatory on signposted toll sections for two-track motor vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes. Choose the category that matches your vehicle:
For a car-and-trailer combination, the 3.5 t limit is the sum of the maximum permissible weights of the towing vehicle (category M1 or N1) and the trailer (category O1 or O2), as shown in their registration documents. Motorcycles do not need a vignette in Slovakia — it is compulsory for two-track vehicles only.

What exactly is the Slovak e-vignette?
The Slovak e-vignette is a time-based road charge that exists only in electronic form: instead of a sticker on the windscreen, your license plate and country of registration are recorded in the central vignette register run by NDS, Slovakia's national motorway company. Cameras and patrols check plates against that register, so nothing needs to be displayed in the car.
Is it compulsory to have one on Slovak motorways?
Yes — cars, vans and other two-track vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes must have a valid vignette before entering a signposted toll section of a Slovak motorway or expressway. A few stretches are exempt, for example parts of the D1 and D2 in Bratislava; they are marked by road signs.
How does the digital registration work?
Once you complete your order, we register the vignette in the official Slovak system on your behalf, using the plate number, country and start date you entered. The order confirmation arrives by e-mail within minutes; the vignette confirmation follows once registration is done — standard processing takes up to 12 hours, Express processing from 1 minute to 2 hours. There is no ticket to print or display.
How long does a vignette stay valid?
You can choose 1 day, 10 days, 30 days or 1 year (365 days). Validity begins on the start date you select and ends at 23:59 on the last day: a 10-day vignette starting on 1 July, for example, runs through 10 July. The 1-day vignette covers the chosen calendar day only.
Which vehicles need one?
Two-track motor vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes — cars, vans, campers — and passenger cars of category M1 whatever their weight. A trailer or caravan needs its own vignette only when the maximum permissible weights of the towing vehicle and the trailer add up to more than 3.5 tonnes; below that, the towing vehicle's vignette is enough. Motorcycles do not need a vignette.
What if I drive without a valid vignette?
Toll sections are monitored by fixed and mobile cameras, and the police can also check vehicles on the road. The vehicle's keeper receives a penalty order for €150, which counts as paid in full if two-thirds (€100) is paid within 15 days of delivery; the police can fine a driver €50–200 on the spot, and fines in full proceedings go up to €500. A vignette registered with a wrong plate number or country counts as no vignette, so check your details carefully.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Refunds are possible only before the vignette has been registered in the toll system, or if an order failed due to a technical fault on our side — once registered, a vignette cannot be cancelled or refunded, in line with the rules of the Slovak vignette administrator. EU consumers may withdraw from our service within 14 days, but only until the service has been fully performed. If you want to cancel an order that hasn't been processed yet, contact support@vignetteexpress.com as soon as possible; approved refunds are returned to your original payment method within 14 days.
Can I move a vignette to a different car?
No — a vignette is tied to the plate number and country of registration it was registered under and cannot be moved to another vehicle. If you swap vehicles or get new plates, you will generally need a fresh vignette. Your plate number or start date can be corrected only before the vignette's validity begins — write to support@vignetteexpress.com.
